Topsham Lock Cottage

Local Info

There’s plenty to see and do around Exeter and the rest of Devon, but here are some activities that are particularly popular in the area around Topsham Lock Cottage:

Birdwatchers

The cottage is ideally situated for birdwatching. Follow this link for more information and a list of recent sightings in the Exe estuary.

Paddlers

Kayaking/canoeing is a popular recreation both on the Exeter canal and on the River Exe. Since Topsham Lock Cottage is only a short walk from the jetty used by the Topsham passenger ferry, it offers easy access to both waterways. More experienced paddlers might enjoy this 12-mile circular route.

Cyclists

The canal towpath forms part of the National Cycle Network Route 2, which is in the process of being upgraded to form the Exe Estuary Cycle Path, a 26-mile route that will run around the entire estuary linking Exmouth, Exeter and Dawlish.

Walkers

For walkers, there are paths on both sides of the canal, and the South West Coastal Path is only a few miles further down the estuary.
